The two accepted options
On a super visa application, proof of relationship is the documentation that establishes you are the parent or grandparent of the host inviting you to Canada. IRCC states: “You must prove that you’re the parent or grandparent of your host. We accept the following documents as proof:” — and lists two options.
The first is “a copy of the host’s birth certificate or baptismal certificate,” which names you as parent or grandparent. The second is “another official document naming you as the parent or grandparent of your host,” for families whose records don’t line up with a birth certificate.
Why the second option matters
Newcomer families whose home-country documents use different naming conventions rely on that second option — an official document establishing the parent-grandparent link is accepted where a birth certificate isn’t available.
